De-Louse the House

Change sheets on any bed the person with lice might have slept in, any clothes and hats they may have worn and any backpacks used in the last 48 hours. Wash and dry in HOT temperatures.

Comforters (bedspreads) can be removed from the bed for 48 hours or thrown into the dryer for minimum 20 minutes on high heat.

Combs, brushes and hair ties used in the last 48 hours can be cleaned by any of the following methods. Place in alcohol or bleach and allow them to soak for at least 15 minutes; put in boiling water for a few minutes; put in a ziploc bag and place in freezer overnight; or place in your dishwasher on a hot cycle.

 What You  can Do?

Run a Vacuum on areas where child frequently sits or lays – including floor, furniture, automobile, car seats and other upholstered items. In absence of a vacuum you may use a lint remover brush on sofa, etc.

If your child/ person sleeps with a stuffed animal or comfort blanket – be sure and throw them in the hot dryer for at least 20 minutes, or place in a plastic bag for 48 hours or until no evidence is found.

Provide child/person with clean pajamas and bath towel.

Remember YOU’RE NOT ALONE in your experience!

Having HEAD LICE is no worse than a cold and should be no more embarrassing than a case of the CHICKEN POX!!!
